Joiner Takes Second Big South Freshman of the Week Award

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford's Jaelynn Joiner has been named the Big South Women's Track & Field Freshman of the Week for the second time after another stellar meet at the Tryon Winter Classic this past weekend.
After posting the second-best result in Radford history in the long jump at the Liberty Kickoff in December, Joiner won the triple jump with a leap of 12.19 meters (40 feet). It is the third-best result in Radford history and the 19th best by a freshman in NCAA Division I history. The Richmond, Va. native also set a personal best in the 60 meters, running the sprint in 7.89 seconds. It's the seventh-best time this season in the Big South.
In addition to those two events, Joiner also ran the lead leg of Radford's 4x400 meter relay team that came in second place – to Radford's other 4x400 meter relay team – on Saturday.
Joiner has won the award each weekend the Radford track and field team have competed this season. Last season, Jeylah Hamrick took the freshman of the week honor three times, including twice in indoor season.
Radford track and field is back in action on Friday and Saturday at the Hokie Invitational. The action begins on the evening of January 23 at the Rector Field House on the campus of Virginia Tech.
