Hamrick Earns Big South Women’s Track Athlete of the Week After Stellar Hokie Invite
1/28/2026 3:00:00 PM | Women's Track and Field
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – In what was a weekend to remember for Jeylah Hamrick and Radford women's track and field, the sophomore has been named the Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the Big South Conference this afternoon.
The Williamsburg native began the two-day event at the Rector Field House in Blacksburg by dominating the 300-meter race and setting a new program record. Her time of 38.22 was the first sub-40 second time in the event by a Highlander, breaking her own school record by nearly two full seconds. On Saturday, she anchored the women's 4x400 meter relay squad that beat Virginia Tech and Appalachian State. The winning time of 3:44.20 was also a school record.
This is Hamrick's first Athlete of the Week award and first for a Radford athlete since Sienna Bailey received the honor in February 2025. She was named Freshman of the Week three times last season. The accolades accompany Hamrick's 2025 Big South Indoor Championship in the 400-meters, a spot on the indoor all-conference 4x400 meter relay team, and her all-conference spots for the 200-meter and 400-meter in outdoor.
Select Highlanders will compete in the Bast-Cregger Invitational next Friday, January 30 and Saturday, January 31. The event is hosted by Roanoke College at the Kerr-Cregger Field House in Salem, Va.
