FARMVILLE, Va. – It was a night of firsts for the Radford women's soccer team, as Ryane Devlin scored her first goal, and the Highlanders picked up their first road win of the season in a 2-0 triumph at Longwood on Wednesday night.

KEY FACTS

Devlin's goal came on a free kick opportunity from just outside the right side of the 18-yard box that put Radford ahead 1-0 in the 61st minute.
Haley Blake added her third goal of the season, finding the net after Ava Kertgate made an amazing pass to set her fellow senior up for a second Radford goal in the 78th minute.
The Highlanders move to 3-2 in conference play and have nine points. They rank third in the Big South now, level on points with Longwood.
Lexi Radvanyi made a pair of saves for her second straight clean sheet.
The Highlanders have not conceded a goal in over 200 consecutive minutes.
Radford outshot Longwood 13-9 and had eight shots on goal to the Lancers' two.
Radford has now won three of their last four matches against Longwood and has won back-to-back at Longwood for the first time since wins in 2011 and 2013.

PLAY BY PLAY

After taking a 2-0 win this past Saturday against Gardner-Webb, Radford appeared to have snapped out of an early conference season slump. The Lancers welcomed the Highlanders having an upset 1-0 win over UNC Asheville this past Friday. At the start, Radford played aggressively to take control. A shot by Ciaira Anderson in the fourth minute forced an early save, and Lilly Clayton added a look a few minutes later that was off target.

Clayton was on target a few minutes later, forcing the Longwood goalkeeper to make a second save within the first 15 minutes. The Highlanders stayed on the attack through much of the first half, finishing with six shots while holding the Lancers to no shots and just one corner kick. However, the score remained 0-0 into the break.

It didn't take long for the Lancers to log a shot in the second half, as Longwood had a shot get blocked by Radford's strong defensive line. Clayton picked up her third yellow card of the season a minute later, but Radford would not let that hamper their attack. Kertgate added a shot to second-half goalkeeper Madie Wessel and forced a stop, and Lena Borges missed with a shot high and right of the net in the 49th minute.

Radford's first great chance came on the free kick from just outside the box. Devlin took it, and the sophomore defender sailed a shot high and to the far post of the goal. Wessel and the Lancers misread the shot, as the goalkeeper stood helpless as the shot went over her head to put the Highlanders ahead 1-0.

Starting play from Radvanyi's goal kick with less than 15 minutes left, Katie Purnell made some moves in the midfield to break through the Lancer defense. She passed ahead to Kertgate in the attacking half, and the senior cut to the left of the net before sending a cross a handful of yards in front of the goal line. The pass was true and in a great spot for Blake, who scored the tap in that gave Radford a much-needed cushion.

Longwood put together a last ditch effort, logging several shots on goal in the final 10 minutes to try and get at least one back. Radvanyi had none of it, making a pair of saves to earn her 17th career shutout. The senior now stands alone with the fourth-most shutouts in program history, breaking a tie with Courtenay Kaplan (16, 2016-19).

SOHRABI QUOTABLE
"Traditionally Longwood is a tough place for us to get positive results," said Head Coach Ben Sohrabi after the match. "We cane with the right mentality into a very important game. Defensively, I thought we were very organized. From an attacking perspective we created enough chances to get it done including a great second goal. It was a good road win."

UP NEXT
