Highlanders Toppled by Second Half High Point Surge
10/3/2026 6:49:00 PM | Women's Soccer
HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Radford women's soccer team managed to keep things even in the first half before allowing three goals in the second half in a 3-0 loss to High Point on Saturday afternoon at Vert Stadium.
KEY STATS
The Radford defense had their work cut out for them out of the gates but somehow kept the Panthers from scoring early. A great look by High Point's Aubrey Bally somehow was pushed left by Lexi Radvanyi, and a follow up shot by Morgan Wilcox in the ninth minute was cleared off by Caitlyn Nottingham just before crossing the goal line.
Radford settled things down for a few minutes before again Wilcox had a shot that hit the post. A bit later, the Panthers appeared to have scored a goal before it was called off after a VAR review, which found that Nottingham had been fouled in the buildup. Ava Kertgate nearly broke through with a goal in the 24th minute, as Ava Kertgate's strike was snagged on a dive by High Point goalkeeper Nylah Mirshafiei. Both sides settled in defensively for the rest of the half, going to the locker room in a 0-0 tie.
Misfortune struck in the first minute of Radford's second half. A cross sent in by High Point's Kasey Resker somehow missed a pair of Panther attackers but found the leg of Nottingham, who accidentally put it in her own net in the own goal.
Radvanyi attempted to bounce back with a save a few minutes later, but another High Point attack and shot by Brooke Potter made it 2-0 Panthers in the 50th minute. Potter made it a brace just over 10 minutes later, scoring off a corner kick to make it 3-0. Kertgate logged a second shot that was blocked 75th minute that presented the last great look for the Highlanders.
SOHRABI QUOTABLE
"We played hard the first half and held them scoreless which was one of our goals today," said head coach Ben Sohrabi postgame. "In the second half we gifted them a couple of goals early and have to create some more scoring chances. (A 3-0 loss) is disappointing in the end, but there was effort today."
UP NEXT
It'll be Senior Day from Cupp Stadium next Saturday as the Highlanders host Gardner-Webb. The action begins at 7:00 p.m., with Senior Day festivities to precede the contest.
