Plethora of Radford Athletes Punch Their Tickets Into Finals at Big South Indoor Championships

MILL SPRING, N.C. – The Radford Highlanders track and field teams got a good start and are primed for an even better second day at the Big South Indoor Championships at the Tryon International Indoor Track. A host of the Highlander women have qualified for the final track races tomorrow, while the men's team scored points in a conference meet for the first time since 2014.

NOTABLES
- Entering a whopping five athletes in the women's 400 meters, Radford managed to get four of the eight spots for the finals. Jeylah Hamrick was safe with the second-best time in the prelims with a 54.71, while Mattie Flores, Raichelle Cornelius, and Jordan Jackson also got the job done.
- Both Jaslyne Robinson and Leah Moye advanced to the finals in the hurdles. The Highlanders join High Point and Charleston Southern in getting multiple athletes into the event finals tomorrow.
- The duo of Makayla Nelson and Janaya Moore also got it done in the 60 meters, placing fourth and fifth to earn a spot in the final.
- Hamrick did what she does best, and that's win races. Though only the prelims, she took the top spot in the 200 meters. Moore joins her to qualify as well in the event with the sixth-best time.
- Kandace McIvor competed in the pentathlon and narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing fourth by just over 100 points to third place. The senior came in second in the 800 meters, setting a new PR in the process with a time of 2:27.53. She also added a PR with a third-place finish in the long jump (5.32 meters) and opened with a came in third in the hurdles.
- Sophie Magson got some huge points in the 5000 meters with a fourth place finish, clocking a 17:37.68. Delaney Eller also faired well with a sixth place finishing.
- Jaelynn Joiner set a new PR with a 5.92-meter (19' 5.25") leap in the long jump, finishing in fifth overall. Maeva Tahou of Charleston Southern took the title, setting a new meet best of 6.31 meters in the process.
- Makayla Nelson was two inches short of getting on the podium in the high jump, with her best of 1.60 meters putting her fourth in the conference.
- Freshman Andrew Picataggi scored the Radford men's first two points in the conference meet by placing seventh in the long jump.
