Cooper Deals and Offense Cruises for Sunday Victory Over Huskies

LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Radford softball program capped their weekend at the Liberty Invitational with a dominant win over UConn Sunday afternoon, winning 5-1 behind a consistent offensive output and another strong outing from Morgan Cooper.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Highlanders offense had another hot start as the team immediately got a runner in scoring position thanks to Peyton Simmons' single to right and moving to second on a passed ball. From a Malli Groves single, Simmons came home and Groves moved to third on an error in the outfield. Kelley Feigen stepped up with two outs and gave Radford another run with a single to left for the 2-0 lead.

The Huskies would collect a double in Cooper's first inning of work, but she allowed nothing else to preserve the 2-0 lead. Radford's offense got a little help and kept stringing together baserunners in the second. Abby Bossler walked and a double by Hailey Scott put two runners in scoring position. With two outs, pinch runner Emma Salzman came home to score and Grace Hogie singled home Scott to make it 4-0 Radford.

In the top of the third, Radford got its final run of the day after loading the bases with two outs. Amanda Lee singled, Bossler singled and Scott was hit by a pitch before Grace Bechtol drew another hit by pitch to bring in the run for the 5-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Cooper was dominant and gave UConn no chance to punch back. The junior retired 14 straight batters going all the way into the sixth inning before the Huskies got another baserunner. After a lead off single, Cooper dialed up a strikeout and double play. In the seventh, UConn was able to tack on one run from a solo homer, but it wouldn't be enough as Radford held on for the strong 5-1 win.
