Feigen’s Sixth Inning Go-Ahead Shot Lifts Softball Over Campbell

RADFORD, Va. – Radford's offense got a much-needed shot to the arm Wednesday afternoon as Kelley Feigen's sixth-inning go-ahead home run lifted the Highlanders to a big 3-2 victory over Campbell.
PLAY BY PLAY
After a costly error saw a run come in for Campbell in the first, Radford's pitching staff would allow just one more run the rest of the way. Peyton Simmons led off the bottom of the first with a hit and seemed to swipe second before replay called it the other way and wiped Radford's scoring threat.
Campbell loaded the bases in the second but came up empty to keep it a 1-0 game. In the third the Camels loaded the bases again with none out. That forced a Radford pitching change with Morgan Cooper coming in with a big showing. Cooper allowed just one run to come in while retiring three of the four batters she faced to keep things within reach at 2-0.
The Highlanders offense would struggle to get things moving but Cooper was right there the rest of the way. The junior would scoreless fourth, fifth and sixth innings to set up the big frame in the sixth.
Malli Groves got the offense moving with a single up the middle. After a groundout moved her to second, a huge error by the Camels sent Groves home and put Amanda Lee on second. After a groundout moved Lee to third, the Highlanders were down to their last out in the frame to try and equalize. Kelley Feigen stepped up and did more than that, lacing a homer to left field that vaulted Radford back ahead 3-2. In the seventh, Cooper worked around a two-out bunt single to shut down Campbell and seal the big 3-2 win.
