Rough Start Sinks Highlanders in Finale Against VMI

RADFORD, Va. – A rough start proved too much to overcome for the Highlanders Sunday afternoon as VMI scored eight runs early to pull away in a 9-1 final.

In the first frame, the Keydets took advantage of a slew of walks and hit by pitches to put two runs on the board while recording just one hit. In the second, the game broke open as VMI scored six runs to balloon their lead to 8-0.

Radford's first hit wouldn't come until the fourth inning by Eli Hudgins, but out of the bullpen was Joshua Milleville who was excellent in steadying the game. Over four plus innings of work, Milleville struck out three and allowed just one run.

In the fifth, Radford would get a run back thanks to Carrington Aaron who doubled home Mason Self with two outs. Trey Ludy came in to pitch the seventh and eighth innings allowing just one hit while picking up a strikeout.

Mason Hatcher also tossed a clean ninth and the offense would add a few baserunners in the bottom half thanks to a hit by pitch from Junho Son and single from Tyler Sparrer. A double play killed the rally, though, and VMI held on in the 9-1 final.
