Offense Slow to Get Going as Baseball Drops Weekend Finale to Western Carolina

CHARLOTTE, N.C. –The Radford baseball program wasn't able to get the bats going in their weekend finale Saturday afternoon against Western Carolina, falling 10-0 in a shortened seven-inning finish.

Radford's offense had an immediate opportunity in Saturday's tilt as Junho Son and Noah Toole each reached with a single and a walk, respectively. A double play wiped the early threat, though, while starting pitcher Andrew Steinhaus was able to work a scoreless bottom of the first to keep the game at 0-0.

After a three-up, three-down second for the offense in the second, Western Carolina struck for their first run in the bottom half with a two-out RBI single. Radford's offense attempted to strike back with a pair of walks in the third but came up empty. Steinhaus would bounce back in the bottom half of the inning to toss another scoreless frame.

In the fourth, things broke open as the Catamounts opened the inning with five straight hits that pushed their lead to 4-0. Breckin Nace entered in relief and came close to escaping the jam with no further damage after a pair of strikeouts. The Catamounts struck big with a homer to clear the bases, though, ballooning their lead to 8-0.

Nace bounced back again with clean fifth and sixth frames that saw no baserunners for the Catamounts. Radford was held similarly scoreless but had one last scoring threat in the seventh.

Devin Parks and Carrington Aaron each picked up singles and moved into scoring position on a wild pitch. Son worked a walk to load the bases, but a groundout wiped the threat and kept the Highlanders scoreless. Western Carolina would go on to add two more runs in the bottom of the seventh to push their lead to 10-0, ending the game in shortened fashion.
