Van Beuge Homers, but Highlanders Fall in Finale at Eagles

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Sophomore Klara Van Beuge picked up her first career homer in a big pinch hit spot Saturday afternoon, but it wouldn't be enough as the team fell in a 7-4 final at Winthrop.

PLAY BY PLAY
The Eagles didn't wait long to break open their big lead to start the game, scoring three in the first and second innings, all with two outs in the inning, to go up 6-0. Radford's offense would take a bit to get going but got a jumpstart in the fourth.

Leading off the inning, Amanda Lee hit her second homer of the season to make it a 6-1 deficit. In the fifth with two runners on, Van Beuge got the call to pinch hit and answered in a big way. She roped her first career homer to left to pull the Highlanders right back in at 6-4.

The Eagles would add a run back in the bottom fifth with a solo shot, but it was the only run Morgan Cooper allowed in her over four innings of relief work. Malli Groves would lead off Radford's offensive efforts with a double in the sixth, but she was stranded after three straight outs. The Highlanders wouldn't get anything going in the seventh and fell in the 7-4 final.

UP NEXT
The regular season has concluded for the Highlanders and their 10-8 record will be good enough to qualify for the Big South Tournament. Radford will await the official announcement of the tournament bracket, but will prepare for the week in Spartanburg, S.C. which is set to start on May 6th.
