CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Monday afternoon that Radford pitcher Corey Costello has been named the Relief of the Week after appearing in three different games for the Highlanders surrendering just one run.
After starting the season by starting six games for the Highlanders, Costello has transitioned into a relief role and has found his stride. In three appearances this week, he logged 5.2 innings while allowing just two hits and one earned run. Since moving to the bullpen, Costello has been especially effective, holding his last 21 batters to a .118 average. His 3.1 innings of work in game one against USC Upstate earned him his first win of the season and his first as a Highlander.
This is the third weekly award for the Highlanders this season and the first one for Costello in his career as a Highlander. Costello is joined by teammates Parker Noonan (Freshman) and Raymond Ladd (Starting Pitcher) who earned weekly awards earlier this season.
The Highlanders are currently preparing for a mid-week game against ETSU. This is the first of a two games split series with the Buccaneers with the next game coming on May 5th. The previous match up saw the Highlanders winning in Johnson City, Tenn. 10-8 last season. First pitch is scheduled for April 10th at 5:00 p.m. with live stats available on RadfordAthletics.com.
