RADFORD, Va. – Radford Athletics announced on Thursday that Carlie Clary will move from the women's basketball office to the administrative office as the new Director of Business Operations. Clary previously was the Director of Women's Basketball Operations, a post the Radford alumnus held for seven seasons. She spent the previous nine within the women's basketball program.
"I am honored and incredibly grateful for the opportunity to join the administrative team at the Dedmon Center as the new Director of Business Operations," began Clary. "After nine wonderful seasons working alongside Mike McGuire and the women's basketball program, I am excited to begin this new chapter and continue supporting a university and athletic department that has meant so much to me personally as well as throughout my career. I am thankful for the relationships, experiences, and opportunities I've had along the way, and look forward to making a positive impact in this new capacity. I would like to thank Robert Lineburg and Cory Durand for their support, mentorship, and confidence in me over the years, as well as entrusting me with this opportunity. I am excited for what lies ahead and proud to continue serving our student-athletes, coaches, staff, and university community. As always, Go Highlanders!"
In her new role, Clary is responsible for administering travel and purchasing processes, processing financial transactions, assisting with budget development and reconciliation, and ensuring compliance with the University, Commonwealth of Virginia, Big South Conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.
As the Director of Women's Basketball Operations, Clary's primary responsibilities for the program included team travel and budget, itineraries, meal accommodations, and hotel booking. She also assisted in a multitude of other efforts including recruiting, social media, day-to-day operations, practice and student manager operations.
Clary spent her first two seasons with women's basketball program as a student manager before leading the program. She also helped begin and organize the Ball Girl Program present at all Radford home games. Her efforts with community outreach and faculty outreach greatly assisted Radford's marketing and communication efforts. She also served as a camp director for the Mike McGuire Basketball Camps and Junior Highlander Camps.
Prior to joining Radford, Clary was an Assistant Women's Varsity Coach at Auburn High School from 2014-16 and an assistant AAU coach at Pulaski County High School.
In addition to her new role, Clary will continue to serve as an adjunct faculty professor for the Health and Human Performance Department, teaching upper 300 level sports ethics courses. She graduated from Radford University in 2018 Magna Cum Lauge with a double major in Exercise, Sports, and Health Education, concentrating in sports medicine as well as Communications/Media Studies. Along with Clary's double major she also minored in Coaching Education and graduated as a Highlander Scholar from Radford University's Honors Academy in 2018. Clary obtained her master's degree in Kinesiology with a concentration in Sport Management from LSU in March 2020.
