RADFORD, Va. – College Sports Communicators (CSC) announced Tuesday that three Radford women's lacrosse student-athletes including Mady Cheney, Evie Gee, and Sam Flippo have been named to the Academic All-District team for success both in the classroom and on the field for the 2026 season.
To become eligible to earn the award, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore and compete in a majority of the program's contests. They must also have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Only about three percent of student-athletes at the Division I level are eligible to earn the award.
Cheney had another record-breaking season to conclude her career as a Highlander. She totaled four hat tricks, including a six-goal performance against Gardner-Webb on Senior Day. Cheney set the program record with 134 career ground balls while also finishing with over 100 career goals and 200 career draw controls, paving the way for a second team all-conference nomination. The Georgetown, Texas native received the Big South's prestigious Christenberry Award, finishing with a perfect 4.0 GPA as a double major in Marketing and Economics.
Also concluding her career as a Highlander, Gee was a force on the Highlander attack in 2026. She finished second on the team with 27 goals, 41 points, and a 78.1% shot on goal rate. The Ohio native added five hat tricks during the campaign, including a season-high four in wins over Butler and Presbyterian. Gee received her degree in Communication Sciences & Disorders with a 3.97 GPA this past May.
Flippo had a huge season as a defender in her first season with the Highlanders. The High Point transfer led the conference and ranked seventh nationally with 2.89 caused turnovers per game. She set the single-season program record with 52 caused turnovers across 18 games, including a program-record eight vs. Gardner-Webb. Flippo was named to the second team All-Big South after the season and won multiple conference defender of the week awards. The Powhatan, Va. native posted a 3.97 GPA as a Criminal Justice major.
