Learning Enhancement Center (LEC)

Hours are from 8:30 am – 9:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 8:30 am -3:00 pm Friday, 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm Sunday.

• All incoming freshman and transfer students are required to complete 8 hours per week in the LEC for their first academic semester. Each student-athlete will be reviewed after the first semester to determine if the required hours will be increased or decreased for the second semester.
• Any student-athlete, at the discretion of his/her coach, may be required to attend the LEC for individual meetings with the Academic Support Staff and/or completion of study hours.
• Hours spent with a tutor or in study sessions for class may count toward the completion of required study hours. However, ALL hours outside of the LEC must be approved by the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services.

Hour System for Upperclassmen
• Below a 2.3= six required LEC hours each week
• Below a 2.0 = eight required LEC hours each week
• Semester GPA below a 2.0 MAY result in increased hours
• Anyone deemed necessary by coaches and the Learning Enhancement Center may receive LEC hours and/or additional LEC hours
• Depending on the situation, hours may be slightly different for individual student-athletes.

Class Attendance
Student-athletes will receive memos stating their participation in Intercollegiate Athletics and the dates they will be traveling for competition. These memos should be given to their instructors the first week of class. These memos do NOT excuse the absences, nor do they guarantee that the student-athlete will be permitted to make up exams, quizzes or other missed assignments. Only the instructor can make those decisions. Therefore it is imperative that the student-athletes reviews all syllabi for attendance policy guidelines during drop/add week in case they need to make a schedule change. It is important for student-athletes to form strong relationships with their instructors because the instructor will be more likely to work with the student-athlete if classes and assignments are missed due to travel. Because student-athletes will encounter some conflict with class times and travel, the LEC stresses the attendance of ALL possible class sessions. If the student-athlete is registered for a course in which the syllabus states a specific number of absences will result in the lowering of a grade, then the student-athlete needs to see Director of Student-Athlete Support Services to discuss their options.
