Radford University Academic Policies
The responsibility for fulfilling all requirements for graduation and NCAA academic eligibility rests with the student-athlete. Radford University shall not permit a student-athlete to represent it in intercollegiate athletics competition unless the student-athlete meets all applicable eligibility requirements. To be eligible to represent Radford University in intercollegiate athletics competition, a student-athlete shall be enrolled in at least a minimum full-time program of studies, be in good academic standing, and maintain progress toward a degree. Academic performance at Radford University is measured by grade points and grade point averages (GPA). Each student-athlete must maintain a specified grade point average to remain in good academic standing and to prevent being placed on academic probation or being suspended for academic reasons.
Academic Probation
A student will be on academic probation at the conclusion of any semester or summer session regardless of the total number of credit hours attempted, in which the student has a cumulative GPA below a 2.0.
Academic Suspension
Any new (freshmen or transfer student) full-time student who has a GPA below a 1.25 at the conclusion of the first semester of enrollment will be suspended and will not be allowed to continue into the next full semester or summer session. Student-Athletes who fall into this category will be recommended by the Director of Student-Athlete Support Services for the SORTS (Students On the Road to Success) program. It is the absolute discretion of the SORTS Committee whether to accept the request.
Continuing Student Policy
Academic suspension occurs when a student has attempted a minimum of 30 credit hours and has less than a 2.0 cumulative GPA on all courses taken at Radford University.
