Emma Kate Russell

Emma Kate Russell joined the Radford Athletics sports medicine staff in March of 2026 and is currently in her first season in the role. Russell primarily works with Radford’s cross country and track and field programs.
 
Prior to joining the Highlanders, Russell spent the last two seasons as an assistant athletic trainer with Emory & Henry working with the department’s women’s soccer, men’s and women’s swimming, men’s and women’s tennis, equestrian, men’s wrestling and softball programs. Prior to that in the spring of 2024, she also spent time working directly with Virginia Tech football athletes for a majority of their spring season including the spring football game.
 
In 2023, Russell worked with E.C. Glass High School’s football, volleyball, field hockey and cheer squads while also assisting University of Lynchburg’s women’s lacrosse, swimming and field hockey teams. She restocked first aid equipment, set up and tore down for game day events, documented injuries, taped, wrapped and sat in on doctor’s appointments while creating rehabilitation programs.
 
Russell earned her bachelor’s degree majoring in biology, with a minor in psychology, from Randolph-Macon College in 2022. She interned in Randolph-Macon’s athletic training department as well as at Pivot Physical Therapy. In 2024, she earned her Master’s of Science in Athletic Training from University of Lynchburg.
