Brandon Costa enters his first season as the volunteer assistant baseball coach.
"It was a priority for our program to hire a position-player and catching coach," said head coach Joe Raccuia. "After working camps with Brandon for the last couple of years, he was a no brainer for the position."
In his role with the Highlanders, Costa will work with catchers and hitters, in addition to helping with all other facets of the program. Costa will serve as camp coordinator for all Radford Baseball Camps.
Costa comes to RU following a year at Charleston (W.Va.), where he served as the top assistant, while coordinating all recruiting efforts. Prior to Charleston, Costa spent two seasons at Concord, serving as catching coach and camp coordinator.
As a player for Concord, Costa helped lead the Mountain Lions to 74 wins in his two seasons and a 2013 WVIAC Championship. Costa finished with a .291 batting average with 26 RBIs. The 2014 season saw Costa help the Concord pitching staff to a school record 3.53 ERA. He played his first two collegiate years at Frederick CC, helping the Cougars earn to No. 1 NJCAA ranking in 2011.
Costa brings additional coaching experience to the program, serving as an assistant coach for the Geneva Twins of the New York Collegiate Baseball League in 2015. Costa served as the head coach of the 2014 CrabFest All-American 11U Tournament Team.
A native of North Wales, Pa., Costa earned a bachelor's degree in recreation and tourism management from Concord in 2014. He is currently pursuing a master's degree in strategic leadership from Charleston.
"Brandon brings a lot of energy to our program and shows a real passion for simply helping players get better," Raccuia added.
