John Shifflett

John Shifflett joined the Radford University sports medicine staff in January of 2012 and works as the primary athletic trainer for Highlander baseball. Shifflett handles the rehab protocols for all 16 athletic programs.

While being at Radford, he has worked to develop a preventative screening protocol alongside our team physical therapists. Shifflett also was a co-author of a poster presentation published by Medicine & Science in Sport & Exercise titled “Baseball Pitcher Shoulder Internal and External Rotational Range of Motion as an Injury Risk Indicator.” He currently serves on the Radford University Athletic Training Advisory Board Committee.

Before arriving at Radford, Shifflett spent four years with Virginia Tech Sports Medicine, and three seasons as the full-time athletic trainer for the baseball team. While in Blacksburg, Shifflett served as the primary data collector for concussion research with the football program from 2010-2012. Shifflett also worked with the men’s soccer team, and the spirit programs.

Shifflett earned a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Averett in 2007.  While working as a student at Averett, he handled duties with the football, men’s basketball and baseball teams.

In addition to his collegiate work, Shifflett completed a pair of internships with NFL teams; the Indianapolis Colts in the summer of 2006 and the Philadelphia Eagles in the summer of 2008.

He earned a master’s in education from Virginia Tech in May of 2009. He currently lives in Christiansburg with his wife, Lauren and their son Clayton.
