Matt Mack, an All-Big South performer from Joe Raccuia’s first recruiting class at Radford, was named volunteer assistant coach in July of 2012.
“It takes perseverance to get through from a volunteer job to a full-time assistant job – Matt Mack has the passion and character to see it through,” Raccuia said. “Matt was a great player and a great leader for this program, and I’m glad to have someone with his ‘blue collar’ mentality on our staff.”
Mack’s day-to-day duties include assisting with all aspects of the program, as well as coaching hitters and infielders. Mack will also head up the operations of Joe Raccuia Baseball Camps.
A product of Davidsonville, Md., Mack was an important part of the turnaround of the Radford program under Raccuia. A two-time all-conference selection, he posted solid career numbers (2009-12) with a .331 average, 14 home runs and 105 RBIs. Mack was the leading hitter for the Highlanders in 2012 with a .332 average, along with five homers and 40 RBIs. In addition, he was named Radford University’s male Ironworks Award winner in 2011, recognizing his commitment to strength and conditioning.
Mack earned a Bachelor’s degree in management from RU in May of 2012.
