Tanner Biagini enters his first season as an assistant coach for Radford, a position he took over in July 2024. He joined the Highlanders by way of Towson, where he served as associate head coach for the last three seasons, with a grand total of seven years on the Tigers’ coaching staff overall.
In hist first year as associate head coach in 2022, Towson finished 10th in program history with 50 home runs as a team during the campaign. The Tigers followed it up in his second year in the role with an even more eye-popping 70 homers, a mark that ranks fourth all-time in school history. The best came in 2024 as the Tigers drove in 250 runs as a squad and finished the season with four student-athletes with a batting average over .300 on the year.
During his previous four years as an assistant at Towson, the Tigers ranked in the top three in the CAA in caught stealing percentage by catchers, which included first-place showings in 2018 and 2020. In 2021, Biagini helped coach Towson to its first CAA Tournament since 2013 behind 22 victories, the most wins in a season since the 2014 campaign. Four of Towson's top five hitters in batting average were all newcomers to the program that season.
Biagini helped with the hitting of Richie Palacios, who was drafted in the third round of the MLB draft by the Cleveland Guardians in 2018 and is a current member of the Tampa Bay Rays. Palacios earned Second Team All-CAA at shortstop in 2018. He is coming off his best season this year in the pros with five home runs, 59 hits, 21 RBI, 46 runs scored 19 stolen bases in 92 games with the Rays in 2024. He also got on-base at a clip of .346.
Prior to his time with Towson, Biagini spent three seasons as an assistant at Lafayette College. In his role with the Leopards, he worked with the hitters and catchers while also handling pre-game scouting reports.
Before his time at LC, Biagini spent three years as a volunteer assistant and camp director at the University of Richmond. The Spiders qualified for the Atlantic 10 tournament in each of his three seasons with the program and advanced to the championship game in 2012. He served as the first base coach at Richmond as well as worked with the catchers and hitters during his time with the Spiders.
Biagini joined the coaching ranks after four years as the starting third baseman for VMI. He served as a team captain for his senior season as the Keydets reached their highest national ranking in program history, coming it at No. 26 in all of NCAA Division I baseball. He was a 2008 First Team Virginia SID All-State selection and helped the team win a school record of 34 games in 2007. Biagini posted a career batting average of .303 and left the Keydets with the ninth-most doubles in school history (39).
The son of former MLB hitting coach and minor league manager, Greg Biagini, Tanner had a standout career at D.H. Conley High School in Greenville, North Carolina. He helped lead the program to back-to-back state championships in 2005 and 2006.
Following his prep career, Biagini was drafted in the 48th round of the 2006 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. Instead of signing, Biagina went on to play for VMI and after his junior campaign, was once again drafted in the 50th round of the 2009 MLB Draft by the Oakland Athletics. He returned to the Keydets for his senior campaign and went on to sign a free agent contract with the Tampa Bay Rays. He played as an infielder and catcher for their Gulf Coast League affiliate in 2010 and with the New York-Penn League Hudson Valley Renegades in 2011. He finished his professional career with 42 hits, 13 doubles, 16 RBI and 11 walks over 55 games played across the two levels.
