Maggie Burton joined the Radford Athletic Training and Sports Medicine staff in August 2020. She serves as the athletic trainer for Highlander women’s basketball, volleyball and men’s and women’s tennis.
Before arriving at Radford, Burton spent three years as an assistant athletic trainer at The University of the South: Sewanee in Tennessee. While at Sewanee, she assisted with many different sports as the University had 24 varsity sports. Her primary responsibilities included working with the Tigers football, volleyball, cross country, swimming and diving, men’s basketball and women’s lacrosse teams while assisting with other sports such as track and field, tennis, and softball. In addition to her work as an athletic trainer, Burton assisted as a preceptor for undergraduate students from Florida Gulf Coast University and graduate students from Eastern Kentucky University in their respective CAATE accredited athletic training programs.
Prior to her time at Sewanee, Burton was an athletic training student at Middle Tennessee State University where she worked with the Blue Raider’s football, baseball and softball teams as well as at Brentwood, Gallatin and Oakland High School. During her time in Murfreesboro, Burton was able to also observe surgeries and work with team physicians at Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance and did a rotation in the physical therapy department as well.
Burton graduated Cum Laude from Middle Tennessee State University in May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training. She graduated from Tennessee Technological University in May of 2020 with a Master of Arts degree in sport management. She is a member of the National Athletic Trainer’s Association, Virginia Athletic Trainer’s Association, and Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainer’s Association.
Burton currently resides in Radford with her two cats, Raider and Tiger.
