Kara Canetto was announced as an assistant coach in August 2024 and is entering her first season in the role.
After an impressive four-year career as a student-athlete with Liberty, earned time as a student coach and moved onto the professional scene, Canetto joins the Highlanders as an assistant coach. As an outfielder with the Flames, Canetto earned awards such as VaSID All-State, ASUN All-Freshman, ASUN All-Tournament MVP and ASUN All-Conference first-team. Professionally, Canetto spent the last season with the Florida Vibe.
Over her career including 177 games she posted impressive stats including 198 hits, 112 runs, 32 doubles, 72 RBI, 40 stolen bases, and a slash line of .357/.390/.458. During her tenure she set single season top ten totals for the Flames in hits and hitting streak as well as career top ten totals for batting average and runs.
Navigating through injuries and a shortened season, Canetto and the Flames earned two ASUN Tournament Championships, two NCAA Regional appearances and an appearance at the National Invitational Softball Championship.
