Alania Girani joined the women's lacrosse coaching staff in September 2019.
"Alania is the most decorated goalkeeper that the Big South Conference has ever had," said Hardy. "She has already brought so much value to our program by working with our three goalies and bringing a set of new eyes to our defense."
Girani just concluded her collegiate career as a member of the women's lacrosse team at Winthrop. She was named First Team All-Big South on several occasions, the Big South Freshman of the Year in 2015, Defensive Player of the Year in 2016. A part of an Eagle's program that won the lacrosse conference championships twice, she touted the title of Big South tournament MVP in 2016 in addition to earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. The four-time All-Preseason conference selection was designated the 2018 Winthrop University Comeback Player of the Year.
She was the captain for the Eagles for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. In the record books, she holds the single season save percentage record of .537, career save percentage of .484, and total career saves at 704. Academically, she was named to the President's List several times as well as the Dean's List and a member of the Big South Honor Roll all four years of her college career.
Girani graduated from Winthrop in May 2019 with a bachelor of science in exercise science.
