GORDONSVILLE, Va. – After opening with a 301 and finding themselves in 11th place following day one, the Radford men's golf team carded the lowest team score of rounds two and three to climb the leaderboard and finish second at the Landrey Invitational.
The day began with the conclusion of round two, which was suspended because of darkness Monday evening. The Highlanders improved on their first 18 holes by 12 strokes to move into fifth place before closing with a season-low one-under 287.
Radford was led by
Chris Dillow (Bland, Va.) and
Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va.), who both finished in a tie for ninth at one-over par. Dillow (74-73-70) began the second round in a tie for 30th, while Hite (72-70-74), competing in just his second collegiate tournament, entered the final day tied for 21st.
Sean Goshert (Conway, S.C.) also bolted up the individual leaderboard recording a top-20 finish with a 54-hole total of 221 (76-73-72).
Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va.), who shot one of three Radford rounds of par or better in round three, finished tied for 25th at eight-over par, while
Alex Karkeek (Exeter, England) recorded a two-day total of 233, which included a 73 in round two.
Longwood (868) won the tournament championship, holding off Radford (877) by nine strokes. James Madison (879) finished in third place, while Delaware (882) rounded out the top tournament finishers.
Richmond's Brad Miller, who was competing as an individual, won medalist honors after entering the day in a five-way tie for second place. J.P. Solis of USC Aiken, Scooter Buhrman of Longwood and Fielding Brewbaker of James Madison all finished with a 213, three strokes behind Miller.
This afternoon's finish marks the highest placing for Radford since winning the 2007 Charleston Southern Invitational, where the Highlanders will attempt to defend their title, Oct. 20-21.
