Porter Nets Career High; Radford Defeated by La Salle

MORAGA, Calif. – Sophomore Kendra Porter (Jamestown, N.C./Dudley) scored a career high 13 points but La Salle used an 11-0 second half run to break open a tie ball game and defeat Radford 65-52 in the consolation game of the Concord Hilton Thanksgiving Classic.
Porter was 4-for-6 from the field for the Highlanders (0-5) including a career best 3-of-4 from three-point land. Sophomore Taleia Moton (Fort Washington, Md./Suitland) tied Porter with 13 points and pulled down a team best nine rebounds.
Morgan Robertson paced the Explorers with a game high 18 points and 19 rebounds. Jamie Walsh and Ashley Gale each dropped in 16 points for La Salle.
With the game tied at 45 at the 8:34 mark, La Salle went on its game deciding run over the next 4:26 to take a 56-45 lead. During the run Robertson scored six points and Radford committed four turnovers and only took two shots.
In a back-and-forth first half, La Salle took a slim 30-29 lead into halftime. Porter led all scorers with 10 points, a new career high. Jamie Walsh led the Explorers with nine points.
The Explorers scored seven straight points to erase a 9-7 deficit and take a 14-9 lead with 8:54 left. The teams would continue to trade baskets over the next four minutes. A pair of back-to-back buckets by La Salle's Ashley Gale and Nadia Duncan gave the Explorers their largest lead of the half (27-21) with 3:38 left on the clock.
A 7-0 spurt, sparked by a long triple by senior Johnette Walker (Columbia, S.C.) gave Radford its first lead (28-27) since the 13:48 mark. La Salle scored three of the final four points of the half to take the one-point lead into the break.
Radford shot 44 percent from the floor in the first half with La Salle shooting 36 percent. The Explorers held a 22-18 advantage on the boards, led by 12 from Morgan Robertson. Walker pulled down a team high six for the Highlanders.
In the second half, La Salle, who shot 50 percent, took a seven-point lead (43-36) at 12:46 on Tara Lapetina's triple from the right corner. A 7-0 spurt, highlighted by an old-fashion three-point play by Moton, tied the game at 43 with 9:34 left. After each team traded baskets, the Explorers went on their game-winning run.
Radford shot 39 percent from the floor and struggled from the charity stripe again, shooting just 50 percent (5-10). The Explorers out rebounded the Highlanders 41-34, while shooting 42 percent from the field and 53 percent from the line. Each team shot 33 percent (7-21) from three-point land.
Walker chipped in with 11 points, eight rebounds and three steals for Radford.
The Highlanders will conclude their four-game eight-day trip at No. 17 Vanderbilt on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
