
Former Highlander Nava Qualifies for 2008 Summer Olympics

RADFORD, Va. – Former Radford University track and field standout Goran Nava recently qualified for the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China. He will represent Serbia, which is the native country of his mother.
Nava, who hails from Castello Di Brianza, Italy, qualified for the squad by posting a time of 3:38:35 in the 1500 meter run on July 2 in Milan, Italy. He will compete in the athletics event at the 29th Summer Games, scheduled for August 15-24.
A 2004 Radford graduate, Nava is one of the school's most decorated track and field athletes. In addition to becoming RU's first two-time Academic All-American first teamer, he finished his career with eight school records (three indoor, five outdoor).
During his junior and senior seasons, Nava compiled 19 individual event titles in cross country and track and field.
Nava was named RU's Scholar Athlete of the Year three times and 2004 Big South Scholar Athlete of the Year for outdoor track and field.
