Men’s Golf Fifth After 36 Holes of Davidson Invite; Wawner Continues Solid Play

DAVIDSON, N.C. –
Coming off a ninth place showing in his collegiate debut, freshman Wade Wawner (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) sits tied for fourth individually as the Radford men's golf team remains in fifth following round two of the 2009 Davidson Invitational Monday.

The 54-hole event is being played on the par-72, 7,208-yard River Run Country Club layout.

After opening with a 302, the Highlanders carded a 306 in their second round and will enter the final day just five strokes out of third place, which is currently shared by Gardner-Webb and Francis Marion.

Liberty saw its eight stroke lead shrink to just two after second-place Wofford bettered the Flames' afternoon total by six swings.

Wawner, who shot a three-over 75 in the morning, backed his first 18 with the day's third lowest score to climb into a tie for fourth on the individual leaderboard.

Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) climbed 16 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 17th after a three-over 75, while Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va. / Bluestone) and Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) sit 33rd and tied for 41st, respectively.

Also competing for Radford is Kyle Bailey (Fincastle,Va. / James River), who is currently tied for 45th following his second straight round of eight-over 80.

Wofford's Garrett Medeiros stretched his opening round lead to six strokes following his second straight two-under 70. Liberty's Max McKay is second at two-over, while Jayson Judy of Elon is one back in third.

The third and final round will begin at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.
