NORFOLK, Va. – Radford's
Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia) advanced to the Round of 16 of the 2009 ITA/Wilson Men's Atlantic Regional with a pair of straight-set victories Friday at Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on the Old Dominion University campus.
Ogrizek, who moved onto the round of 64 with a straight-set decision over Morgan State's Eric Ward Thursday, knocked off a pair of seeded in-state foes on day two. In the morning singles session, the sophomore dispatched of No. 15 Sebastien Jacques of Virginia Tech, 6-3, 6-4, before knocking off No. 17 Sebastien Vidal (William & Mary), 7-5, 6-4.
The 2009 all-conference performer looks to continue his impressive play Saturday morning when he meets fifth-seeded Lee Singer of Virginia at 10 a.m.
Battling flu-like symptoms, Radford's
Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia) fell to Will Beck of Virginia Tech, 2-6, 1-6 in the round of 64. Due to his condition, Salec and doubles partner
Zack Watson (Harrisonburg, Va. / Eastern Mennonite) withdrew (w/o (ill)) from the doubles round of 32.
Watson, who became the first Highlander in men's tennis history to win an ITA Regional match four consecutive years, defeated Maryland's Graham Knowlton, 6-4, 6-3, in the round of 64 before falling to 18th-seeded Jamie Whiteford (William & Mary), 4-6, 6-7 (0).

Mike Anderson. “Such was the case with Igor today. He played a very high-level of terrific tennis to get into the round of 16. I am very proud of his effort and that of Watson and Salec. This all bodes well for a good spring season for our team."

The Atlantic Regional is one of 12 regional events nationally as players vie for a spot at the ITA National Indoor Championships. Admission to watch some of the country's best tennis will be free of charge throughout the event, scheduled for October 22-26 at Folkes-Stevens Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Old Dominion University (Eight (8) Indoor Courts)
ABOUT THE ITA REGIONAL
There are 12 regional tournaments being played at various college campuses. The regional singles and doubles winner will advance to the ITA National Indoor Tournament hosted by Yale in New Haven, CT November 5-8, 2009.
