CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) of the Radford University men's golf team has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Men's Golfer of the Week, as announced by the league office Thursday afternoon.
Eklund led the Highlanders on the individual leaderboard with a tie for 19th showing at the 30th Annual ODU / Seascape Collegiate Tournament hosted by ODU. The red-shirt freshman battled the wet and windy conditions to card a 78 on day one, before firing a season-low one-over 71 Tuesday to finish at 149 and record his first career top-20 finish. The native of Charlottesville, Va., was one of four Highlanders to shoot a season-low on day two in leading Radford to a team total of 283, which tied for the lowest team round of the event.
Radford will conclude its 2009 fall campaign Nov. 2-3 at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate in Cashiers, N.C.
