THE BREAKDOWN
After a slow start in the Golfweek Fall Challenge finishing in T-50th Place and T-55th place at the Bryan National Collegiate, Blevins would have a breakout performance this week competing at the Testudo Cup. The junior would place eighth overall with a score of 215 (-1) to lead the Highlanders. Blevins would start out day one slow going three-over par on his first round of play, as Radford as a team took a round to get going. That was followed by shooting one-over during his second round to end the day at four-over. However, on the second day and final round of play, Blevins would go on to tie the best round of the competition with a score of five-under par for a round score of 67. Blevins would find his stride on hole eight's 483-yard hole with the junior shooting an eagle to go along with five other birdies.
Â
The next best scoring Highlander would be freshman David Goode with a score of 216 (E) to finish just one place behind Blevins in T-9th place overall to continue his strong start to the year. The freshman would play consistent in all three rounds as he would finish each round of play with a 72 (E). Goode would score 10 birdies over the course of the Cup with two eagles on the final round of play. These eagles came on the longest hole on the course being the 527-yard par-5 of hole 12 followed by the 502-yard par-5 of hole 16. In the rest of the third round, Goode would work through some bogies on two and three in the front nine then 10,11, followed by a triple bogie on hole 15. Through the rest of the round Goode, would recover well to end even on the day and across the Cup.
Â
Third on the team would be the two-time Big South Freshman of the Week in Jett Leard, as the freshman saw a score of 222 (+6) to place third on the team and T-25th across all competitors at the Testudo Cup. Leard would open play in round one struggling to find his form across the front nine shooting 4 over. Leard wouldn't make any gains on the back nine to finish round one four-over. In round two, Leard would make improvements with only two bogies followed by two birdies to end even. On the third and final round, Leard would find trouble on hole eight going three-over and end two-over on the round.
Â
Next on the team would be CJ Peterson who finished in T-65th place. Peterson cleaned things up across rounds two and three but could not hit his way out of an early hole. Isaiah Cantrell would be the final Highlander with the freshman making his Highlander debut. Cantrell would also struggle on the first round with a score of 10-over, but rebounded well over the rest of the tournament to finish up play with a score of 233 (+17).
