Leard Earns Second Straight Big South Freshman of the Week Nod

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Thursday afternoon that Radford men's golfer Jett Leard has been named the Freshman of the Week for a second straight week after a strong showing at the Davidson Intercollegiate.
Leard stayed true to form this week as he led the Highlanders in play with a 215 (-1) at the Davidson Intercollegiate to finish in a tie for sixth place. Leard would open play with an impressive round one scorecard of three-under as the freshman scored birdies on six holes, with five of them coming from the front nine. In round two, he would continue his consistency by scoring a par on 17 out of 18 holes, with the lone bogey coming on the par-3, 177-yard hole 14. In round three, Leard would have a good start as he would score a birdie on the 14th hole followed by two more on the first and second hole. Leard would be as high as tied for 1st place on the day, but came just short in his last two holes as he had double bogeys on holes six and seven to end the day +1 and finish the tournament in sixth place.
The award is the third for the Highlanders this season after Leard paired up with fellow freshman David Goode to sweep the conference's weekly awards.
Radford looks to keep the strong showings going when they're next in action at the Testudo Cup from October 5th through 6th.
