THE BREAKDOWN
Tied as the top finisher for the Highlanders would be the two-time freshman of the week Jett Leard after an outstanding performance at the Elon Pheonix Invitational. Leard would find success from his first round with the freshman stroking one under par throughout the first round. This was highlighted by an eagle on the second longest hole on the eight holes of the back nine. Leard would go right into the next round replicating his success and improving going three-under on the second 18 of the day. Leard would come into the second and final day four under par and would look to improve his score. The Highlander would once again find success on hole 17 and improve his score further with a 69 on the final round going two-under. Leard would finish the Invitational an impressive six under par across both days and all three rounds. Leard would finish in T-17th place overall and tied for the best finish on the team.
Â
CJ Peterson would be the fellow Highlander tied in first place with Leard as the sophomore would also shoot six under par and finish in T-17th place at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Peterson would come off the practice rounds in strong form as he would start the front nine two under par in the first round. Peterson would do the same on the back nine going two under to finish four under on the opening round. During the second round, Peterson would have a clean round correcting any mistakes with a bogie earning him a score of even on the second round. On the final round of action Peterson would make quick work of the back nine shooting four under par with help from an eagle on hole 17. After the final hole of the round Peterson would end two under on the day and six under across the Invitational.
In his second round of action for the Highlanders this fall season, Gregory White would finish third best on the team shooting even at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. The freshman would have a strong showing on the first round of the day with four birdies and just going one over par on the round. For the second round, White would fix some mistakes and shoot two over par on the last round of the day. On day two White would show big improvements as the freshman would improve shooting three under on the day. Like many of his teammates, White would find his greatest success on hole 17 as he would find himself two under par for an eagle. The Highlanders would shoot a crazy 11 under par on the 17th hole across the Invitational with none of them having anything less than a par. White would shoot even and finish tied in 44th place for third best on the team.
The last of the point scoring Highlanders was David Goode as the Highlander would move up 23 spots on the last day to finish in tied 59th place with a final score of 215, two over par. After struggling to adapt to the course during the first-round, Goode would later find his groove in the second and final rounds of the Invitational. Goode would shoot two under on both rounds to end two over par.
