CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Big South Conference announced Friday afternoon that Radford men's golfer Jett Leard has been named the Freshman of the Week for a third time this fall after a strong showing at the Elon Phoenix Invitational.Â
Â
Tied as the top finisher for the Highlanders would be the previously two-time freshman of the week Jett Leard after an outstanding performance at the Elon Phoenix Invitational. Leard found success from his first round with the freshman stroking one under par throughout. This was highlighted by an eagle on the second longest hole on the eighth hole of the back nine. Leard would go right into the next round replicating his success and improving going three-under on the second 18 of the day. Leard would come into the second and final day four under par and would look to improve his score. The Highlander would once again find success on hole 17 and improve his score further with a 69 on the final round going two-under. Leard would finish the Invitational an impressive six under par across both days and all three rounds. Leard would finish in T-17th place overall and tied for the best finish on the team.
This Big South Freshman of the Week Award is a historic mark for Leard as he becomes the only Highlander to win the award three times in a season. Leard's other Freshman of the Week performances came from the Davidson Intercollegiate where he would finish in a tie for sixth place, and the Bryan National Collegiate with a finish of 16th individually.
Â
The Highlanders will be moving into the winter on a high note as they look forward to a competitive spring calendar. They will open at the Wexford Intercollegiate in Hilton Head, S.C. with action starting on Monday, February 15th and running through Tuesday, February 16th.  Â
