Wawner T10th after First Collegiate Round; Darkness Suspends Round Two

ROUND ONE SCORES

GORDONSVILLE, Va. –
Playing in his first collegiate tournament, Radford's Wade Wawner (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) fired a one-over 73 and sits tied for 10th individually following round one of the Frank Landrey Invitational hosted by Liberty.

With 36 holes scheduled for Monday, 41 of the 76 competitors completed their second round as play was suspended due to darkness at 6:58 p.m. The remainder of the field will conclude their second round tomorrow morning with play resuming at 8 a.m.

The third and final round will begin immediately following the completion of round two.

The 54-hole event is being played on the par-72, 7,172-yard Spring Creek Golf Club layout.

As a team, the Highlanders opened with a 305 and are 11th after 18 holes of play. Despite their place in the team standings, Radford is just five strokes out of fifth and only 13 off the lead held by Richmond.

Wawner is just one clear of his teammate Kyle Bailey (Fincastle,Va. / James River), who is currently tied for 19th. Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va. / Bluestone) and Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) finished round one in seven-over 79, while Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) shot 80.

A year ago, the Highlanders carded a 301 in round one before shooting the lowest team score of rounds two and three to climb the leaderboard and finish a season-best second.

Richmond's Daniel Walker and Mike Smith of James Madison shared the opening round lead after shooting rounds of one-under 71.
