FINAL RESULTS
GORDONSVILLE, Va. – Freshman
Wade Wawner (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) finished tied for ninth in his collegiate debut and Radford climbed five spots up the team leaderboard over the final two rounds to place sixth in the 2009 Frank Landrey Invitational hosted by Liberty.
The 54-hole event was played on the par-72, 7,172-yard Spring Creek Golf Club layout.
Wawner, who opened with a one-over 73, carded a two-under 70 in round two to jump into a tie for fourth, before carding a four-over 76 Tuesday to conclude his first collegiate tournament at three-over 219.
Kyle Bailey (Fincastle,Va. / James River) finished tied for 27th at eight-over 224, while
Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) and
Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va. / Albemarle) concluded the Highlanders' second of five fall events 45th and tied for 48th, respectively.
Also competing for Radford was
Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va. / Bluestone), who placed tied for 65th.
As a team, the Highlanders backed their second round total of four-over 292 with a final round 303 to finish sixth out of 14 squads.
Richmond captured the team title with a two-over 866, while the Spiders' Sam Beach fired a final round four-under 68 to overtake William & Mary's Brandon Parker for individual medalist honors.
Radford will enjoy a week break before continuing its fall schedule at the 2009 Davidson Invitational Oct. 12-13 in Davidson, N.C.
