TAMPA, Fla. – Despite claiming the doubles points, No. 47 Radford fell to nationally-ranked foe South Florida, 4-1, in men's tennis action Tuesday afternoon at the USF Varsity Tennis Courts.
The setback ended the Highlanders' five-match winning streak as they fall to 7-2, while No. 42 USF improves to 6-4 on the young season.
Radford's top doubles team of
Martin Sayer (Hong Kong/Sagemont Virtual) and
Zack Watson (Harrisonburg, Va./Eastern Mennonite) ran their record to 7-1 with an 8-3 decision over Wael Kilani and Romain Deridder.
After South Florida claimed the second doubles tilt, the first-year duo of
Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia/Birotechnika Grammar School) and
Stefan Bojic (Novi Sad, Serbia) gave the Highlanders' an early 1-0 lead with an 8-4 victory on the third court.
Through nine matches this spring, Radford has won the doubles point in eight of those affairs.
South Florida responded with four straight-set singles victories to secure the dual.
Radford returns to action tomorrow morning with an 11 a.m. match against St. John's in Tampa, Fla.
