PINEHURST, N.C. – After concluding its opening round early Monday morning, Radford carded a second round total of 296 to sit tied for 11th through 36 holes of the 2009 Pinehurst Intercollegiate presented by Gatorade.
The 54-hole event is being played on the Par 72, 7,035-yard Centennial Pinehurst No. 8 layout.
Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va./Bluestone), who fired a three-over 75 on his first 18, is currently tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard thanks to an even-par 72 this afternoon. The junior bogeyed two of his first three holes, but responded with three birdies on the front side and one on the final hole.
Like Hite,
Sean Goshert (Conway, S.C./Socastee) rolled in four birdies in round two and sits in a tie for 35th at 144 (+5).
Chris Dillow (Bland, Va./Bland) and
Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) are two of 10 golfers at nine-over par, while
Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va./James River) is two back of his teammates.
Dillow matched Goshert with a second record one-over 73.
Despite sitting in the middle of the 20-team field, Radford will enter the final day of competition just seven strokes out of fourth.
Michigan State, which entered the event ranked 34th nationally, holds a three-shot advantage over Virginia Tech in the team standings.
Nathan Sutherland (-4) of Miami (Ohio) is first on the individual leaderboard one shot clear of three others.
The final round of the 2009 Pinehurst Intercollegiate will begin tomorrow morning.
