NINETY-SIX, S.C. – Battling through windy conditions on day two of the 2009 Big South Men's Golf Championships, the Radford men's golf team carded a 309 Tuesday to drop to sixth in the team standings.

The 54-hole event hosted by Coastal Carolina is being played on the Par 72, 7,079-yard Patriot Club layout.

After opening with a six-over 78 Monday, Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va./James River) carded a three-over 75 in his second round to join fellow Highlander Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va./Bluestone) in a tie for 14th at 153 (+9).

Like Hite, Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) shot 79 on his second 18 holes and currently sits tied for 22nd. Chris Dillow (Bland, Va./Bland) bettered his opening round by seven strokes and climbed into a tie for 28th following a 76 today.

Also competing for Radford is Michael Wade (Floyd, Va./Floyd), who will enter the final round in 40th place.

Coastal Carolina's Zack Byrd carded the only sub-par round through 36 holes to grab the top spot on the individual leaderboard. Byrd's five-under 67 this afternoon moved him to two-under overall, four strokes clear of second place.

The Chanticleers, who entered day two with a seven-stroke lead, stretched their advantage to 26 strokes thanks to a four-man score of two-under 286. To go with Byrd's impressive five-under total, Coastal's four other golfers turned in rounds of one-over 73.

Gardner-Webb held onto second place, while just 14 strokes separate the Bulldogs and Highlanders.

Radford, which earned the league's third seed based on its current Golfweek national ranking, played in groups of three with individuals from Charleston Southern and High Point.

The 2009 Big South Champion will earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.

Final round tee times will begin Wednesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
