Men’s Golf Tied for 13th after Round Two of Fall Opener

FLORENCE, S.C. –
Despite bettering their opening round by two strokes, the Radford men's golf team slipped into a tie for 13th following a two-over 290 in the second round of the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate Monday afternoon.

The two-day/54-hole event hosted by Francis Marion is being played on the Par 72, 7062-yard Country Club of South Carolina layout.

Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va./Bluestone) fired his second straight even-par 72 to remain in a tie for 24th. Like Hite, Kyle Bailey (Fincastle, Va./James River) carded an even-par total on his second 18, while red-shirt freshman Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) bounced back with a one-under 71 to climbed 22 spots up the leaderboard after opening with a 78.

Radford's Michael Wade (Floyd, Va./Floyd) also improved on his morning round with a three-over 75 in the afternoon to sit at seven-over 151 (T-72nd).

After opening with a career-low two-under 70 on his first 18, senior Brixton Albert (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) fell into a tie for 55th following a six-over 78.

Just 12 strokes separate the Highlanders (292-290=582) from Charleston Southern, which is currently fifth with a 36-hole total of 570.

South Carolina-Aiken (-16) leads Western Carolina (-12) by four strokes, while Appalachian State's Casey Johnson holds the individual lead at eight-under 136 (69-67).

Spencer Fulford of Georgia Southern shot a tournament-record and competitive course record 9-under 63 during Monday's second round. The previous competitive course record was 64 set by Tom Carr in the 1994 NIKE South Carolina Classic. Fulford is among a group tied for fourth place at 138.

The third and final round of the annual event will begin Tuesday morning.
