POWELLS POINT, N.C. – The Radford men's golf team sits tied for seventh after day one of the inaugural ODU/Outerbanks Collegiate Golf Tournament as a result of a one-under 287 performance.
The tournament is being played on the par-72, 6,535-yard course at Kilmarlic Golf Club.
Redshirt-sophomore
Weston Eklund recorded five birdies in the first round and shot a 70 (-2) to lead all Highlander participants. He is currently in a tie for 17th in a 92-player field.
Junior
Michael Wade and sophomore
Wade Wawner shot an even-par 72 on the day are tied for 32nd.
Rounding out the Highlander group is junior
Paul Woodson and freshman
Matt Harman, who is playing in his second tournament of the fall. Both shot a one-over 73 and are tied for 38th.
As a group, the Highlanders are just four strokes out of fifth place.
Round two will begin tomorrow morning, beginning with an 8:30 a.m. tee time.
