LEADERBOARD
CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Radford men's golf team showed no signs of being stuck inside for most of the winter as the Highlanders sit in second place at six-over par following 27 holes of the season-opening 2010 Wendy's Charleston Shootout hosted by Charleston Southern.
The two-day, 15-team tournament is being played on the Par 72, 6,919-yard Links at Stono Ferry layout.
Round two of the 54-hole event was suspended due to darkness and will resume Monday morning followed by the final 18 holes.
After shooting a 10-over 298 in its opening round, Radford was a team-best four-under in round two before it was called with the Highlanders on holes 9-14.
Michael Wade (Floyd, Va. / Floyd), who competed in just one fall event, is tied with Georgia's Russell Henley at the top of the individual leaderboard at four-under par. Already with 10 birdies to his credit through 30 holes, Wade opened with a one-under 71 and currently sits at three-under in round two with six holes remaining.
Just behind his fellow teammate, red-shirt freshman
Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) is tied for third at three-under par. Like Wade, Eklund fired a 71 earlier this morning and is two-under in round two with five to play.
Radford's
Kyle Bailey (Fincastle,Va. / James River) will also continue his second round inside the top-20 in a tie for 19th, while
Paul Woodson (Powhatan, Va. / Powhatan) and
Brixton Albert (Lititz, Pa / Warwick) are well off the pace in a tie for 55th and 65th, respectively.
Ranked 17th in the most recent polls, Georgia holds the top spot on the team leaderboard, 15 shots clear of the Highlanders, while College of Charleston (+7) is third one back of Radford.
