INDIVIDUAL / TEAM LEADERBOARD
PINEHURST, N.C. – Kyle Bailey (Fincastle,Va. / James River) carded a one-under 71 Saturday and the Radford men's golf team bettered their opening round by one stroke to climb into a tie for eighth after 36 holes of the 2010 Pinehurst Intercollegiate presented by Gatorade.
The 54-hole / 15-team event is being played on the Par 72, 7,009 Centennial Pinehurst No. 8 layout.
Bailey, who enjoyed a near flawless second round with a pair of birdies and just one bogey, climbed 19 spots up the 83-competitor leaderboard.
As a team, the Highlanders (300-299=599) will enter the final round just seven strokes out fifth place, currently occupied by UNCG and Southern Methodist.
Freshman
Wade Wawner (Virginia Beach, Va. / Floyd E. Kellam) recorded his second straight two-over 74 to move into a tie 20th.
After opening with a 74, red-shirt freshman
Weston Eklund (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) suffered a six-over 78 to fall into a tie for 46th, while
Lane Hite (Clarksville, Va. / Bluestone) and
Michael Wade (Floyd, Va. / Floyd) sit tied for 61st and 79th, respectively.
Overnight leader Penn State maintained its position atop the team leaderboard. The Nittany Lions are two strokes clear of Virginia Tech (582), which is six strokes ahead of in-state foe Old Dominion.
The Hokies' Mikey Moyers is tied with Sam Wall of ODU for first place individually at three-under.
The final round of the three-day event will begin Sunday morning.
