BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Along with winning the doubles point, No. 63 Binghamton claimed two out of three singles matches that required three sets and handed the Radford men's tennis team their fourth straight 4-3 setback Saturday afternoon in non-conference action at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
The loss drops the Highlanders to 2-8, while Binghamton improves to 9-1.
With the match tied 3-3, Gilbert Wong held off the Highlanders'
Zack Watson 6-3, 3-6, 7-5 to clinch the dual for Binghamton.
Despite dropping its fifth one-point decision of the season, Radford's lone doubles win came from its top duo of
Ivan Salec and
Thomas Dehaen, who moved to 5-1 on the spring.
Salec, who entered tonight's contest ranked 79th individually, added another win over a nationally-ranked foe to his already impressive playing resume with a three-set defeat of No. 117 Sven Vloedgraven, 6-3, 3-6, 6-1.
Like Salec, sophomore
Igor Ogrizek recorded his sixth straight singles win with a 7-6, 6-4 decision on court three over Alexandre Haggai.
Freshman
Erik Finkenbrink rounded out the scoring for the Highlanders with a straight-set win at the final singles position, 6-3, 7-6.
After playing its first 10 matches away from home, Radford will host Elon in its home opener Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.
