DOUBLES POINT LIFTS NO. 69 UNCW OVER MEN'S TENNIS, 4-3

RESULTS

RADFORD, Va. –
The doubles point proved to be the difference as UNC Wilmington ended Radford's 38-match home winning streak with a 4-3 victory in non-conference men's tennis action Friday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.

The setback was the sixth by one-point this season for the Highlanders as they fell to 7-9 overall, while UNCW improved to 12-5.

With singles matches two and five tied late in the third set and UNCW clinging to a 3-2 lead, Chris Cooprider secured the contest for the Seahawks with a 0-6, 6-3, 7-5 come-from-behind win on court five.

Just minutes after the dual was decided, Radford's Thomas Dehaen put the final point on the board with a three-set triumph over Kinshuk Sharma, 6-4, 2-6, 7-5.

The nationally-ranked Seahawks rallied by Radford in the doubles competition to grab an early 1-0 lead.

With the doubles portion tied at one match apiece, UNCW's Illia Ziamtsou and Kosta Blank fought off a match point and rallied past Paul Boslet and Erik Finkenbrink 9-7 on court two to clinch the team point.

The lone bright spot for Radford in doubles was Ivan Salec and Dehaen's seventh straight win, which moved them to 11-1 on the spring.

Salec, who entered on an 11-match winning streak and ranked 80th in the most recent ITA Singles Rankings, wasted little time tying the dual with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory at the top spot.

The Seahawks went back in front and stretched their advantage to 3-1 with wins from Kosta Blank (6-2, 6-1) and Alex Wetherell (6-4, 6-3) at positions four and six, respectively.

Radford cut the team deficit back to one, 3-2, when Igor Ogrizek defeated Ziamtsou in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Like Salec, Ogrizek stretched his singles streak to 12 consecutive as the sophomore improved to a team-best 13-3 on the season.

Radford will conclude its three-match homestand Saturday morning with a 10 a.m. match against conference-foe Coastal Carolina.
