FORMER MEN’S TENNIS STANDOUTS SHINE AT 2010 CVITT CHAMPIONSHIPS

LYNCHBURG, Va. –
For the second time in three years, Martin Sayer claimed the 2010 CVITT Championships, while fellow Radford men's tennis standout Youssef Bouzidi took home the 35-and-over title this past weekend at Oakwood Country Club.

Sayer, a four-time Big South Player of the Year and current Radford assistant coach, trailed fifth-seeded Sergio Rojas 5-4 in the first set before taking the next three games to win the set, 7-5.

With the second set tied 1-1, top-seeded Sayer took command and won the next five games to capture his second Central Virginia Invitational Tennis Tournament.

"I came into this tournament with no expectations because I had wrist surgery last August and was away from action for five months,” said Sayer. “I remember thinking after I had my surgery that I may never play again. So I'm extremely excited with this outcome."

To go along with his singles title, Sayer teamed with Gustafsson to win the Men's Open Doubles Championship, 6-3, 6-4.

A two-time all-conference performer in singles while at RU, Bouzidi defeated top-seeded James Peterson 6-0, 6-2 in the Men's 35 Singles Division finals.
