ORANGEBURG / NEWBERRY, S.C. -- After knocking off 2010 NCAA participant South Carolina State 5-2 this morning, Radford ran its winning streak to three straight with an 8-1 victory over Newberry College in non-conference men's tennis action Sunday afternoon.

In their morning dual with the Bulldogs, Radford grabbed the early 1-0 lead by winning two of the three doubles matches.

The freshman duo of Joe Mills (England / Cardinal Newman Catholic) and Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill School) blanked David Grund and Artemiy Nikitin, 8-0, on court three, before Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) and Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) improved to 22-2 since teaming up with a 9-8 win at the top spot.

Like yesterday, Salec (4-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Sayer (6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (9)) recorded three-set singles wins at positions one and two to remain unbeaten on the spring.

Dehaen (4-6, 6-3, 6-3) also needed three sets to get by Nikitin on court five, while freshman Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) bounced back with a convincing win over David Grund, 6-0, 6-2.

After sweeping the doubles portion against Newberry, Radford (4-2) got singles victories from Meulemans, Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School), Paul Boslet (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson), Randall Carter (Abingdon, Va. / Abingdon) and Alex Metzner (Middletown, Md. / Middletown).

The Highlanders sat three starters against the Wolves.

Radford will resume conference play Friday with a 3 p.m. match at league-rival Winthrop.
