RADFORD, Va. – After dropping the doubles point, Radford won five of the six singles matches to rally past No. 61 North Florida, 5-2, in non-conference men's tennis action Monday morning at the RU Tennis Courts.
Winners of seven straight and 10 of their last 11, the Highlanders improved to 11-3 overall, while UNF fell to 7-5.
Radford's lone win in doubles came from its top duo of
Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) and
Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury), who defeated Moritz Buerchner and Beauregard Treyz, 8-5.
After Salec's win by default at the top singles position tied the match, the Highlanders got three convincing straight-set wins from the bottom part of its lineup to clinch the dual.
Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School),
Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt) and Dehaen dropped just six games combined on courts four through six.
Radford's
Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill School) also got back on track with a three-set (6-3, 4-6, 10-4) decision at the No. 2 spot.
The Highlanders' 3 p.m. match with Emory & Henry has been canceled to due to expected rain in the New River Valley.
