SALEC WINS 100TH CAREER MATCH; MEN’S TENNIS RUNS WIN STREAK TO 10

BOX SCORE

RADFORD, Va. – Ivan Salec
(Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary School) recorded his 100th career singles victory as No. 63 Radford ran its winning streak to 10 straight with a 7-0 win over Tennessee Tech in non-conference men's tennis action Friday afternoon at the RU Tennis Courts.

Winners of 13 of their last 14, the Highlanders improved to 14-3, while TTU fell to 4-5 on the spring.

Ranked 82nd in the most recent rankings, Salec became just the second player in school history to hit the milestone, joining current assistant coach Martin Sayer, who finished his illustrious career with 114 victories.

For the seventh time this season, the Highlanders swept the doubles portion to grab the early 1-0 advantage.

After wins from Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt), Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) and Igor Ogrizek (Daruvar, Croatia / Birotechnika Grammar School) at the final three singles positions, Salec (6-4, 6-3) gave Radford a 5-0 lead with a straight-set win of his own on court one.

Joe Mills (England / Cardinal Newman Catholic) rallied back from an early deficit at the third singles position, while fellow freshman Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill School) secured the shutout with a three-set decision at the No. 2 spot.

The blanking was the second consecutive for Radford and its 15th dating back to the 2009 campaign.

The Highlanders will conclude their brief homestand with a 10 a.m. contest against George Washington Saturday morning.
