CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Radford senior
Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia) has been selected the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Tennis Player of the Week, while teammate
Nicholas Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong) was named the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week for matches played March 21-27.
In addition to finishing the week 3-0 in singles, Salec became just the second player in Radford tennis history to record his 100th career singles victory with a straight-set win over Tennessee Tech's Alex Chen at the top spot.
Ranked 93rd in the most recent ITA Rankings, Salec has won 10 straight and leads the Highlanders with a 15-1 record this spring.
Salec has received the league's top weekly honor five times this season.
Like Salec, Sayer finished the week 3-0 in singles to improve to 13-3 in 2011. A three-time recipient of the award, Sayer recorded a perfect 3-0 doubles mark, including the team-clinching point against George Washington in Radford's last outing.
It also marks the third time this season Salec and Sayer have received their respective honors in the same week.
Winners of 11 straight, the Highlanders return to action Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Presbyterian at the RU Tennis Courts.
