NO. 65 MEN’S TENNIS RUNS WIN STREAK TO 14 IN HOME / CONFERENCE FINALE

RADFORD, Va. – No. 65 Radford extended its school-record winning streak to 14 straight with a 5-2 victory over Gardner-Webb in Big South men's tennis action on “Senior Day” at the RU Tennis Courts.

In addition to their winning streak, the Highlanders have won 33 of their last 36 conference matches, while improving to 18-3 on the season and 5-1 in the league.

Dating back to their dual at Elon, Radford has outscored its opponents 78-12.

For the 16th time in 21 matches Radford jumped out to the early 1-0 advantage by claiming the doubles point. The Highlanders won by scores of 8-4 and 8-3 on courts one and two, respectively, while Gardner-Webb's lone win came at the final position.

Shortly after Nick Sayer (Hong Kong, Hong Kong / Cams Hill) pushed the Highlanders' lead to 2-0, Thomas Dehaen (Zwevegem, Belgium / Middenjury) ran his winning streak to 14 straight with a convincing win (6-0, 6-2) of his own at the fifth singles position.

Playing at home for the final time in his career, Ivan Salec (Oroslavje, Croatia / Oroslavje Secondary) clinched the dual for Radford with a 6-0, 6-4 win at the top spot for his 104th career victory. The win was his 13th straight as he improved to a conference-best 18-1 on the spring.

With the match already decided, the Runnin' Bulldogs' two singles wins came by way of three-set 10-point tiebreakers.

The Highlanders' final win of the day came from freshman Stijn Meulemans (Belgium / KA2 sportschool Hasselt), who extended his winning streak to 16 with a three-set decision on court four.

In addition to Salec, senior Paul Boslet (Hudson, Ohio / Hudson) was also honored prior to the match.

Radford will conclude its regular season with a 1 p.m. dual at James Madison next Sunday.
